Western Balkans have always been considered patriarchal and predominant by males but
history of these countries encounters many women who held prominent positions and led
kingdoms in the medieval period. The project will focus on such historical characters and take
the users to time travel to their lives through Virtual and Augmented Reality. We will virtually
recreate the castles or residencies where those women lived and add the actresses performing
the scenes from their lives. The users of VR headsets will be placed in historical buildings and
participate in stories about selected ladies through interactive digital storytelling. Furthermore,
we will create an AR route through the reconstructed locations, leading the users to the remains
of selected places where our characters will appear over the mobile devices. The project will
be developed by the digital artists and VR developers from BiH and Ireland in collaboration with
heritage professionals and historians from Serbia, Montenegro, BiH, Albania and North
Macedonia. We will select historical buildings where female rulers were living, will digitize
cultural heritage material, sites and historical buildings using 3D, VR and AR technologies. The
project will strengthen transnational creation, increase access to cultural heritage, participation
in culture as well as audience engagement and development both physically and digitally
through created applications, accessible online and within selected museums. The project will
help European cultural and creative sectors to fully take advantage of new technologies to
enhance their competitiveness, as well as accelerate their digital transition as a response to the
COVID-19 crisis. It will foster cooperation between organizations active in the culture field, to
increase the European dimension of creation and circulation of European artistic content as
well as to encourage the development, experimentation, dissemination or application of new
and innovative practice.
